2019 Dodge  Journey vs 2019 Kia Sorento near Gastonia, NC

Finding the right SUV can be a difficult task; most people want something with enough space and seats but not something so big that it can't fit in the garage. Two of the vehicles to consider in this category are the Dodge Journey and the Kia Sorento. Both of these SUVs can seat seven while not taking up precious space in your garage. And if you're looking for power, they both have engines that nobody would consider underpowered. But which one is truly the best? Who will be crowned king of the SUV? Take a trip with us as we break down each one to find out.

2019 Dodge  Journey Power & Handling

The standard engine in the SE and Crossroad trims of the Dodge Journey is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder unit providing 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. An option for these trims and the standard on the higher levels is a 3.6-liter V6 developing 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is the default for the Dodge Journey, but there is an option to upgrade to all-wheel-drive. The Journey is relatively fuel-efficient with an average fuel consumption of 21 mpg with the 2.4-liter and an average of 19 mpg with the V6. Towing abilities are 1,000 pounds for the four-cylinder and 2,500 pounds for the V6.

2019 Kia Sorento Power & Handling

The standard engine for the Kia Sorento is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with a revised 6-speed automatic transmission. Higher trim levels get a 3.3-liter V6, connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Like the Dodge Journey, the Kia Sorento comes with front-wheel-drive with the option of all-wheel-drive though the base-level L does not have this option.

2019 Dodge  Journey Features & Design

The Dodge Journey comes in three trim levels allowing for more options. The base-level SE comes standard with 17-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, foglights, roof rails, heated side mirrors, and a height-adjustable driver's seat. The SE also has a few available packages including a Connectivity package with Bluetooth, satellite radio, and a USB port. A comfort and convenience package with cloth upholstery and a power-adjustable driver's seat. And a Blacktop package with 17-inch alloy wheels and blacked-out exterior trim. Moving up to the Crossroad gets you 19-inch wheels, a touring-tuned suspension, leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, with options like a remote start. And the GT gets you most of the Crossroad options and includes 19-inch wheels and an upgraded suspension.

2019 Kia Sorento Features & Design

The Kia Sorento provides you with five trim levels and provides you with features such as 17-inch alloy wheels, a rearview camera, cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, and automatic headlights. Tech features include a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a six-speaker sound system with satellite radio. The Sorento offers a Convenience package which includes rear parking sensors, the power-adjustable driver's seat and dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats. This package is available on the LX trim and above.

In the end, we are going to give the victory to the Dodge Journey. The engines are more fuel-efficient, and the three convenience packages at its base level trim impressed us. You can't go wrong with either vehicle, but the Dodge Journey has more overall features.
