Learn What Makes Each SUV Unique!

The 2022 model year has introduced not one but two new models to the premium SUV market! The Wagoneer collection is a reimagining of the beloved SUVs that first debuted in 1963, but have been out of the public eye since the 90s. Now for 2022, we are treated to two distinct SUVs, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, both of which seek to redefine the classic American SUV with tons of premium features and new technology, as well as strong athletic capabilities that give it a versatile, rugged edge over the competition. Though the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer share a lot in common, they also have several key differences that make each one suitable for a different driver's unique lifestyle. To learn more about what defines the 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, keep reading.

Exterior Features

Starting from the outside, both the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer feature a body-on-frame design with a similar overall shape, and iconic 7-slot grille. Both models start out with 20-inch wheels, but the Grand Wagoneer features standard 22-inch wheels on upper trims. The Grand Wagoneer also features a stunning chrome "Wagoneer" emblem that stretches the entire width of the hood, proudly spelling out the name of the brand. On the back, it has some additional badging, like a Wagoneer badge with an American flag motif. The Grand Wagoneer also has standard power-deployable running boards that automatically slide into place when the doors are opened. The Wagoneer, by comparison, has standard side steps, with the power running boards as an available option.

Interior Features

The interior of both the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer offer a premium experience but there are many differences that make each one unique. Both models seat up to eight passengers, and they also both feature standard Nappa leather upholstery. Where the two SUVs differ is in the upper trim levels, where the Grand Wagoneer upgrades its interior to premium quilted Palermo leather. The Grand Wagoneer also offers a suede headliner, with black suede on the Obsidian trim level. The Wagoneer has three-zone climate control while the Grand Wagoneer has four-zone, and the Wagoneer has heating and ventilation for the front seats with heat only for the second row, while the Grand Wagoneer has heating and ventilation for both the first and second rows of seats.

Tech Features

All models in the Wagoneer lineup really shine when it comes to new technology. We'll start with what the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer have in common, which includes the new Uconnect 5 infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless smartphone charger. The Grand Wagoneer has a standard 12-inch touchscreen across the board, and the Wagoneer's touchscreen measures 10.1 inches. Also, the Grand Wagoneer offers a standard Front Passenger Display on its upper trim levels, while the Wagoneer has the same screen as an available option. Similarly, both models also have available Rear Seat Entertainment Displays for the second-row passengers. Also, the Grand Wagoneer has a standard 23-speaker McIntosh MX 1375 Reference Entertainment System on its upper two trim level, and the Wagoneer's Series III trim level has an available 19-speaker MX950 McIntosh sound system.

Powertrain Options

Both the Grand Wagoneer and the Wagoneer use one powertrain for each of their various trim levels. In the Wagoneer's case, this powertrain consists of a 5.7-liter V8 engine paired with an eTorque mild-hybrid system. This fuel-efficient combination is then connected with an 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is the standard drivetrain for the Wagoneer, though 4-wheel drive is available for both trim levels. For the Grand Wagoneer, the standard engine is the 6.4-liter V8 paired with the same 8-speed automatic transmission. There's no mild-hybrid system here, but you do get the benefit of standard 4-wheel drive with the Quadra-Drive II transfer case, as well as standard Quadra-Lift Air Suspension.
