Jeep Brings Back the Grand Wagoneer

Details brought to you by Marburger Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Shelby, NC

An all-new Grand Wagoneer marks the rebirth of a classic automotive icon. In late 2021, Jeep is going to launch production versions of its new ultra-luxury SUV, the Grand Wagoneer, and, it's quite a vehicle. Perhaps we should let Christian Meunier, global president of the Jeep brand explain: "Our new Grand Wagoneer Concept marks the first step in the rebirth of Wagoneer - a true and rare premium American icon," said Christian Meunier. "With the electrification of each Jeep nameplate coming in the next few years and the reintroduction of Wagoneer, we are quickly expanding into new segments and more premium space."

Can you tell me about the original Grand Wagoneer?

Sure, the original Wagoneer, which known simply as the "Full-Size Jeep," debuted in 1963 and was made by Kaiser Corporation. It was a no frills 4x4 vehicle and was built primarily for utility and light commercial use. The first hints that the vehicle had the potential to woo a more sophisticated consumer audience came with the Super Wagoneer model, which Kaiser released in 1966. After enjoying modest sales for several years, the Super Wagoneer became an American Motors Corporation (AMC) product when Kaiser was sold to AMC.
Now under the AMC brand, the 1984 AMC model was released with it most of the features that had come to define the earlier Super Wagoneer. Most were powered by an AMC 5.9-liter V-8 with shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive. Chrysler would purchase AMC in 1987, but the Grand Wagoneer would remain with few changes. The vehicle was discontinued after 1991.

The rebirth of the Grand Wagoneer

Exciting news, in late 2021, production versions of the new Grand Wagoneer will be shipping. It will be an ultra-luxury SUV and a statement piece for the Jeep brand. Jeep said the production car will have three available 4x4 systems, the Quadra-Lift air suspension, independent front and rear suspension, among other attributes. The engineers at Jeep say the new Grand Wagoneer will provide the most powerful towing capability in its segment.

What will the 2021 Grand Wagoneer exterior be like?

The 2021 Grand Wagoneer is an extraordinarily handsome vehicle. Starting at the front, a chrome seven-slot grille accented in Obsidian black is surrounded by LED detail lighting. The headlights are trimmed with real teak accents and large illuminated "Grand Wagoneer" badges are placed around the vehicle. The Grand Wagoneer stands tall on 24-inch, multi-spoke, aluminum wheels featuring 3D elements. A three-piece wheel cap features the Wagoneer logo suspended in polished acrylic.

Can you tell me what the interior is going to be like?

The interior of the Grand Wagoneer will be opulent. When entering the vehicle, a collection of LEDs light in a full "welcome" sequence. On the roof, a full-panel glass roof admits in day light and moonlight to all occupants. The Grand Wagoneer will carry seven passengers thanks to front- and second-row captain's chairs, as well as a complete third row.

And, here's a real treat. The 2021 Grand Wagoneer is the only vehicle audio system in the world powered by McIntosh, another famous American luxury brand. The system features 23 custom-designed speakers connected to a 24-channel amplifier. The audio components are designed in aluminum and gloss black, true to the design aesthetic of McIntosh's high-end audio systems.
