Jeep's New Rubicon 392 Concept

Jeep's new Rubicon 392 Concept was announced on July 14, 2020, the very same day that Ford unveiled its new Bronco 4x4. The new Bronco is a Wrangler-like vehicle that is designed to attract buyers who traditionally opt for Jeeps. Fortunately, the new Bronco is no competition for Jeep and the Rubicon 392 concept drives that home. Here are a few items that the Rubicon 392 Wrangler offers:

It's got a Hemi!

The 2021 Bronco has two engine choices: a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder and a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6. The Rubicon 392 Wrangler has FCA's tremendously popular 392 Hemi. This is an engine that offers 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. By the way, HEMI is a reference to the shape of the combustion chamber heads inside the engine. It refers to a "hemispherical design," a geometry that allows a reduction in heat loss in the cylinders and room for bigger valves. There's little comparison of the performance of a real Hemi to that of ordinary engines. Want to hear more? Jeep claims that the Rubicon 392 concept can get from zero to 60 mph in less than five seconds. Keep in mind, this is a SUV!

It's loud and proud

With the overwhelming popularity of the dual mode exhaust systems on the 2017 (and later) Hemi V8 Chargers and Challengers, the Rubicon 392 Concept will offer the same. The advantage to the dual mode exhaust system is that it allows drivers enjoy a little exhaust noise when it is opened up, but still not bother anyone when you are driving to work. It does this with electronic valves located in the exhaust that are normally closed but when you put the pedal to the metal, they open up and the exhaust, well, makes its presence known.

Rugged drivetrain and suspension

Keep in mind, this is a Rubicon. The folks at FCA know that the Rubicon label means that this vehicle delivers world-class off-road capability. To achieve this, the Rubicon 392 Concept employs a Selec-Track® full-time two-speed transfer case, heavy-duty Dana® 44 axles, Tru-Lok® electric front and rear locking differentials, a Mopar® 2-inch lift kit, monotube FOX® shocks, a Warn® winch and custom rock rails. Serious enough? When equipped with the Mopar® 2-inch lift kit, 17-inch beadlock wheels and 37-inch mud tires, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept provides an amazing 13.25 inches of ground clearance and 34 inches of water fording capability.
