Shattering Expectations

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, coming from the most awarded SUV ever, boasts even greater legendary on-road refinement and 4x4 capability. Any expectations of the next generation of full-size SUVs have not only been met but shattered. It raises the bar in not only performance and handling, but capability and luxury as well, and, for the first time, can seat six or seven passengers. Jeep achieves this level of handling with a very cleverly engineered Quadra-Lift air suspension, class-leading Selec-Terrain traction management system, Hill-descent Control, and the option of three superb 4x4 systems, all described in more detail below. The available Off-Road Group features water fording capability up to 24 inches, high-strength steel skid plates, rugged performance tires, and class-leading maneuverability, ground clearance, and articulation.

Tell me about the L's engine options.

The L's standard engine is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 delivering 290 horsepower and 257 lb.-ft. of torque.  More power is available with the optional award-winning 5.7-liter V-8 engine at 357 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque.  Both have a towing capacity of 7,200 pounds, and are paired with the robust TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.

What is the Grand Cherokee L's Quadra Lift Air Suspension?

Traditionally, you have to choose between a lower, more aerodynamic, fuel-efficient profile and a higher ride with more ground clearance. Believe it or not, now you can have both! The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L has a Quadra-Lift air suspension system that adjusts the height settings for optimum performance and ride. The Normal Ride Height gives better aerodynamics and fuel economy. There are two off-road settings. One provides a bit of extra height for clearing obstacles, while the other delivers legendary Jeep off-road capability, best-in-class ground clearance, and up to 24 inches of water fording depth. Park Mode makes it easier to enter or exit the vehicle, and Aero Mode is the lowest setting for optimal performance and fuel economy.

How does the Selec-Terrain traction management system work?

The Grand Cherokee L's Selec-Terrain traction management system gives you control over five available settings for your current driving conditions: Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Mud/Sand. For each mode, the system coordinates the powertrain, braking and handling, 4x4 torque split, throttle control, transfer case and traction control, steering feel, and other components to give you the best possible performance for those conditions.

What does the Jeep Grand Cherokee L's Hill-descent Control feature do?

When this feature is engaged, the Jeep keeps moving at a slow pace, so you can concentrate on steering and enjoy the ride without concerning yourself with the brake or accelerator. It keeps the vehicle under control and helps get you down very steep hills comfortably. It works in reverse, as well as forward.

What makes the L's 4x4 systems legendary?

Jeep offers three 4x4 systems on the Grand Cherokee L, all providing legendary off-road capability with composed on-road driving dynamics. Quadra-Trac I is a single-speed active transfer case. It pre-emptively adjusts torque distribution based on sensor inputs. If slippage is detected, it redistributes torque to the axle with the most traction. Quadra-Trac II works the same as Quadra-Trac I but is a two-speed active transfer case with low-range gear reduction. Quadra-Drive II is also a two-speed active transfer case but also has a rear electronic limited slip differential. In certain scenarios, it can eliminate slippage before it happens.
